I love NYC. I’m very glad I was born here and not, say Wichita, or some shit. (If you’re from Wichita…no offense.)
That said, recent gentrification is changing things. Some ways good, some ways bad. Either way, it’s good to remember how things used to be.
Yesterday NYTimes.com published a photo essay documenting Q. Sakamaki’s new book “Tompkins Square Park,” published by PowerHouse. It’s great stuff. Purchase the book here.
Nas did a show celebrating his album release with Hot 97 a couple days back. My boy threw me a few tickets so I made it out. I said I’d throw up some video, so here they are; enjoy. I posted a few photos from the show as well…
Nas @ Blender Theater: “N.I.*.*.E.R.”
Nas @ Blender Theater: “Nas Is Like”
Nas @ Blender Theater: “Fried Chicken”
Nas @ Blender Theater: “One Mic”
For whatever reason, Flickr won’t upload this correctly. Blame them, not me.
So I got my computer back, finally got everything back on there (and more…) but it took FOREVER. I should be back to posting every few days now. That said, I wanted to put up a quick post to bless folks with this….
Silly ass cover aside, there’s some dope music on here. And I know they did a super limited pressing, so I wanted to help them get the music out there….
Also, I hit up the Nas show the other night. I’ll be putting up some video later tonight, most likely. So be on the look out for that.
The brand new video from Jose James, shot by Josh Rothstein (the director of documentaries “Not A Game” and “The Excellent Theopolis”) - filmed on location at a homeless shelter in New York.
The 12″ of Jose James’ Park Bench People is backed with Jose’s collabo with Flying Lotus “Visions on Violet”. The 12″ will be released on the 2nd of June and is available from The Brownswood Store.
“Park Bench People” is a cover of a lesser known hip hop classic, dating from 1993 by Freestyle Fellowship — definitely seek out the original too!
